No. Under the Australian Road Rules and South Australia’s Motor Vehicles Act 1959, a motorised wheelchair or mobility scooter is only exempt from registration, a driver’s licence and insurance while it’s incapable of exceeding 10 km/h. Removing or tampering with the speed limiter pushes it over that threshold, which reclassifies it as an unregistered motor vehicle — illegal to ride on the road or footpath — and it will void the manufacturer’s warranty and any insurance cover.
